New Weather Climatic Record Keeping Tool

ANNOUNCEMENT:

The Kettle Moraine Area Weather Research Center has determined a more efficient way to document and track climatic data. The “frozen kitty water dish” method has past the initial hypothesis test stage and is now available for scientific use. This indicator accurately tracks past temperature trends, specializing in long periods of freezing temperatures with minimal warm spells. Throw out your National Weather service high temp/low temp charts. The frozen kitty water dish method pr… Continue

It's mowing season, but the morels are good!

Spring in Wisconsin is with us now in full force, with the leaves coming out, trilliums and other wildflowers blooming and, of course, grass growing. Yes, its mowing season again. Time to fill up the tractors and try to keep everything tame. Oh well, what it takes up in time it gives back in relaxation!

The morels are coming in good this year, with about 75 or so picked so far. I added a picture of one day's haul. They are good little suckers, and I think that the number I'm getting this year w… Continue

Spring is Finally Coming!

With the warmer weather, the Ashford Pines is just about playable. There are still some pretty large snowfields on the top of the hill, but otherwise you can start to pick your way around some of the more open (sunny) holes. I'm looking very forward to being able to get out and walk around with a couple of discs, picking throws here or there as I see fit. Soon some cement basket sleeve work starts as well as trimming and clearing. Probably start doing bonfires next weekend. It's going to be grea… Continue

Winter Continues

10 more inches of snow last Thursday, and the Ashford Pines remains in its nearly unplayable state that it has been in since the second week of December. Almost 4 months of near dormancy, continuous substantial snow depth the whole time. Its been an unbelievable winter. Been able to start some chainsaw work the last couple of weeks, but the snow depth still makes it hard to drag the branches, boughs and the like. The snow is also too deep for burning brush piles, so progress on that front is lim… Continue

Thanks for having me!

Thanks for inviting me to the site! It looks like fun!

I moved to my current residence in late November, 2001 with the intention of putting in a private disc golf course (as well as raise a family and so on). The house is on 20 acres on the north side of a drumlin (glacial feature) on the edge of the Kettle Morraine about 50 miles north of Milwaukee. The 'Ashford Pines' as been an evolving process, with two baskets being purchased in 2002, another 2 in 2003, 3 in 2004 and the final 2 i

Hi Tim. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I won't let this throw me off course in our club's mission, but it had me down a day or two. I just can't understand it. There's a lot of hurt in the world that comes out in one way or another I guess.

I haven't given Fond du Lac disc golf in 2010 a lot of thought yet, but very soon I'm sure I'll have to give it some thought and different ways the club can raise awareness of the sport and also raise the degree of sportsmanship and consideration among existing players.

As always, I'm open to new ideas. A meeting in the coming months would probably be a good idea.

And I'd certainly love a chance to get out and throw at your place some time. I wasn't just being polite when I said I really thought it was a good course. Actually I'd really love to play doubles out there some time.

Anyway, I hope your holidays are going well and wish you a happy new year.

Do you sell the morels? My dad has a secret stand of morels somewhere. He won't even tell ME where it is! What do you do for a living?

I'll take you up on that offer, I try to find a couple of gentleman up for playing. But since I don't really know any J/K, we'll work something out. I'm aware of the morels up at Dretzka, went on Wednesday to search, must be too early.

Keef,
I'm thinking that you would not make the PT stop on the weekend of Standing Rocks. Other than that weekend and Memorial Day weekend I should be able to make it up to your place-finally.
