Have you ever played a course that required players to cross a fairway on the way to another hole?

I'm just wondering . .. I had an idea about expanding a course and. . ..

Never do it.

You would know--you've played a few courses, I hear. We rearranged a course and in the process lost 3 cool holes. Because of roads and park boundaries there is no other way to access the lost holes without crossing a fairway. It isnt something we MUST do so I agree with you. Never do it.

Brackett's Bluff in Davidson, NC is a private course that is setup this way. hole 9 plays across hole 18's fairway. awesome course. pristine.

We have a course in Ozark Missouri that they just made into a 18 hole course, after it being 10 holes for awhile. The 18 holes are nice and its a well put together course, but they crossed fairways on one hole and they have tee pads kinda close on a couple holes. Just saying that it will make things interesting for their up coming tournament.

Golden Gate Park has some teepads that parallel some fairways. They are approx mid point on some of the fairways. A few times I've thrown over and past the teepads. Now we are talking a city park so space is a premium. So for these holes/teepads, they have put up netting to protect the players on these teepads. Not an ideal set up, but I'm also quite comfortable and worry free when throwing from them.

Sounds like a bum deal, Chad. I'm OK with Xing fairways but only on private courses with small numbers of players.

Hope all is well over on the West side. Did you get off the bad list at your local access station yet? Just wondering.

I think I am finally off the "banned "list at the Access Station! I'll check on that and let you know.

If you have players crossing a fairway, you're not done solving all the problems of your design. Get back to work and fix it.

It's like saying you've "done" a Sudoku, except there are a couple of 3's in the first row. Asking if it's OK won't make it so, even if you can get someone to tell you it is.

Point made, sir.
I think we have officially nixed the idea. The course does not have a high attendance but it is better not to cross.

There's a way to still have crossing fairways but just not have them in the installed design. There are safari layouts known to the locals who play these safari routes that may include crossing fairways when the course has little or no traffic.

We might use the layout during club tourneys. . .maybe even in the winter.

For the record--the fairways do not cross. The golfers must walk across one fairway en route to the following hole.

Sweet! Moving targets, more challenging.
