So who won the Featured Tournament Virtual Jumbo Toss?

That's great, Mark! Sheila and I really wish we could have been there and been numbers 72 and 73, although I am a bit ambiguous about being there when an old guy like Brakel shot a -9. Holy cow!

Gunars Nollendorfs and I have been laying out the next course at a state recreational area in Michigan - at the Big Portage Lake Unit of the Waterloo State Recreational Area a few miles north of Grass Lake. The park staff will begin clearing the first nine holes on Monday.

This course will be only a few miles off US-94, with a boat launch, camping, a beach and concession, and more. We're planning to ensure that it's challenging for everyone.

TD Report

Ok, now with a little rest I can do a small write up for the tournament...

First, I would like to once again thank our sponsor of the tournament Austin's Auto Collision. Not only did they pay for various PDGA & park fees they also donated 50 ESP discs for the first 50 people that registered for the tournament. VERY nice to them to do so. DJ Hunt our Gateway sponsored professional came out to the tournament and was a dream assistant TD. Also I would like to thank Bruce Brakel for the donuts and for doing the SWEET tournament trophy discs. I also would like to thank the Motor City Chain Gang for providing the payouts for the tournament, without their cooperation our small club would not be able to host such fine tournaments. Shawn Speakers and the Michigan State Parks are GREAT to work with making HollyWoods a wonderful place to host tournaments. Finally, I would like to all the membeers of the Flint Town Flyerz that helped or offered to help at the tournament, it was greatly appreciated.

There were some great highlights at this tournament. We had 71 players show up to this first of three player series event! I was thinking low 60s at the maximum but, the players just kept on showing up. We ALMOST got the player's meeting started on time, I delayed it 15 minutes to help a player that came and registered on time but, an emergency situation arose that he needed to quickly attend to. The 2 rounds of the tournament seemed to flow pretty well. I think that each round took around 2.5 hours to play.

AM1 Highlights: Par Burke of Ann Arbor had 2 great rounds, with his first round tying the then course record of -6 and a solid round of -5. Bruce Brakel made a run at him in the second round by shattering the course record by shooting a -9! It was not enough to overtake the solid performance by Burke however.

AM2: Flint Town Flyer club member Adam Kann lead the tournament both rounds in his division with a solid -5 for the day. Woman Professional Sarah Demar made a good showing with the men tying for 4th place.

AM3: The AM3 field had an impressive 29 players! Derek Evans overtook the first round leader Rob Belprez to finish first in his division.

AM4: In the first year of this new division we had a nice sized field of 10 players in the Novice Division. Dale Dotson led from start to finish but, Juan Alavarado kept up to pace with him in the second round. However, Juan was unable to chip away at that first round lead.

Advanced Masters: Microtel Disc Golfer of the Week Winner John Minicuci cruised to a solid win in the Advanced Masters division.

Recreational Women: 5 women came to play in the recreational women's division. Kalamazoo native Andrea Gilstad rolled into HollyWoods and left with a 6 shot lead.

On that note, I had announced that any non-cashing women could see me after the tournament for a free club t-shirt. I don't think that any of them did. Our offer stands to any of them that come to the next series event.

The $102 Ace Pool was not hit and rolls over to Chain Reaction on June 28th.

TD Report Errata: Wrong PDGA # for Pat Burke. Likely wrong score for Becky Gilbert, round 2. You did not announce her as winning and +5 just seems unlikely.

We photographed these outside in the shade so that there would be plenty of light but no glare. The colors are a little deeper and brighter than what you see here.

If you're going to be at Austin's Collision, I'm going to bring a few specials for trading with those of you who finish in the prizes.
